“I think he needs to hit rock bottom, both metaphorically and physically,” Mitchell stated. “It’s a turning point for him.” He also hinted that this accident will not only be a survival test but will also force Ripley to reflect on his emotional state and make drastic decisions about his future.
The imminent danger Ripley faces is crucial for the season’s development. As Mitchell put it, “this goes beyond a difficult moment; we’re talking about a near-death experience that will shake not only Ripley but everyone around him.”
