Celebrate Star Wars Day with a sneak peek into The Acolyte, Lucasfilm’s upcoming Disney+ series that pits Jedi Master Sol against a shadowy Sith villain.
An Unfolding Mystery of Jedi and Sith
In the teaser, we witness gripping lightsaber duels as Jedi Master Sol, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae, vows to bring his rogue former apprentice Mae (Amandla Stenberg) to justice. However, Mae isn’t the only threat to the Jedi. We get a glimpse of a masked Sith villain orchestrating a series of murders, raising speculation that this ominous warrior might be a familiar face concealed behind an armor reminiscent of the Knights of Ren.
Showrunner Leslye Headland shared her excitement about exploring the hidden rise of the Sith before the events of The Phantom Menace. “I really wanted to tell a story about the Sith… But it felt like the time period to do that in would be something pre-Phantom Menace. That seemed to be the most interesting trajectory for the Sith,” Headland told EW, hinting at unraveling how the Sith evolved from the Rule of Two to Palpatine’s rise in secret.
A Stellar Cast and Team Behind the Scenes
The Acolyte brings together an impressive cast, including Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. The show pits Jedi Master Sol against Mae, his former apprentice, as they delve deeper into a crime spree that reveals far more than expected.
Leslye Headland is the series creator and executive producer, alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana join as co-executive producers, with Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Eileen Shim, and Rob Bredow as producers. The directing lineup includes Kogonada (Episodes 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Episodes 104 & 105), and Hanelle Culpepper (Episodes 106 & 108). The music score is composed by Michael Abels, known for his distinctive work on Get Out and Us.
