Businessman David Vélez, founder and CEO of Nubank, clarified his position vis-à-vis the National Government and the policies that President Gustavo Petro seeks to implement, especially those related to the collection of taxes from companies.
In an interview with Semana, the Colombian businessman assured that the country needs both the left and the right to put an end to polarization and move forward. He was also happy with the economic growth that has been registered in the country and said that he saw with good eyes the objectives of the new Government of President Gustavo Petro, with whom he has already met.
It is possible that someone imagines that there would be disagreements between the president and me, and the truth is that until now we have grown up in leftist governments in Brazil.
Faced with the tax reform, Vélez expressed his agreement with the premise that those who earn the most are the ones who pay the most taxes, as long as the limits are maintained so that businessmen are not forced to leave the country.
In addition, Vélez stressed that, although at the beginning there was a lot of concern among the business sector about the tax reform, this has been changing with the statements of Minister Ocampo, who has assured that entrepreneurs and companies will not drown in taxes.
Finally, the businessman assured that the interests of the president are aligned with the increase in competitiveness and the distribution of wealth in the capitalist system, as he himself seeks through his company.
“This is president, but there is a limit”
After the interview granted by Vélez to Semana, President Petro celebrated through his Twitter account that “the second richest man in Colombia agrees with the tax proposal.” Given this, Vélez’s response was immediate.
The businessman stressed to the president that, although he agrees with the payment of taxes, there is a limit that should not be exceeded. In addition, he insisted, using the example of the goose that lays the golden eggs, that if businessmen are pushed too far, they can go the other way.
Remember that the entrepreneur is the goose that lays the golden eggs. If we remove too many eggs, the chicken dies or we go to another place where they treat it better.
