In less than 10 days, Yaser Asprilla has convinced his coach Rob Edwards to throw him on the field without fear. He did not appear in the first two games of the season, but after the win against Burnley -August 12- he was present and featured in a Watford team that occupies the top positions in the Championship with 9 points and is undefeated.

Yaser’s first start came last Tuesday in the tie against Birmingham City and this Saturday he repeated another tie against Preston North End. It was 76 ‘and 80 minutes respectively in which he demonstrated his quality and the adaptation that he is gradually having in English football. For the third consecutive time, his DT filled him with praise.

“He’s a good footballer, isn’t he? The personality that he showed, the intelligence, the areas in which he moves to pick up the ball, it’s just pure football. You can see him thinking all the time. He just loves to play and that’s what I like most about him,” Edwards said after the 0-0 draw at Preston. There the Colombian returned to rotate in the three attacking positions, constantly exchanging with Youssouf Bayo and Rey Manaj.

The Welsh coach valued Asprilla’s left foot, technique and playfulness, something that perhaps his team lacked. The arrival of the Chocoano has been an ideal complement for the characteristics of the other forwards and attacking midfielders. He even tried to compare himself to him.

“I was never good enough to play the way he does or to feel what he feels. He is like a child playing with his peers in the street and we have to help him learn over time, but his enthusiasm and eagerness are lovely,” Edwards concluded.

Watford will play again in the middle of the week, it will do so in its Carabao Cup debut against Milton Keynes Dons, a club from the third division of England. The next match of the Championship will be vs. Queens Park Rangers at home (Saturday, August 27).
