The Lega Serie A has confirmed the Supercoppa Italiana between Inter and Juventus will go ahead at San Siro on January 12.

There had been suggestions both clubs were eager to postpone the fixture to the end of the season.

This is because of growing COVID-19 cases, but also as the restrictions on crowd sizes reduced the capacity from 75 per cent to 50 per cent.
It’s estimated this would cost circa €1.5m in revenue from ticket sales.
The Lega Serie A ultimately had the power to decide whether or not to postpone and today they opted not to change the date of the fixture.
It is the clash between the reigning Serie A champions Inter and Coppa Italia holders Juventus.
Traditionally, it had been a pre-season summer opener played in August, but in recent years has gone further and further down the schedule to December or January.
Inter and Juventus were hoping to delay it until the end of the current campaign.
