If you’re a fan of the Yellowstone universe, then you won’t want to miss 1923, the latest prequel series. Set in historic Montana, the show follows the next two generations of the Dutton family as they struggle to survive during a time of drought, lawlessness, and prohibition.

The storyline follows the Duttons in the days before John Dutton (Costner) took over running the famous ranch. The series, created by Taylor Sheridan, features a star-studded cast, including Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton, the husband and wife team who run Yellowstone Ranch.

The story focuses on the next two generations of the Dutton family as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness, and prohibition, as well as an epidemic of cattle rustling, all under the cloud of the Montana Great Depression that preceded the nation by almost a decade. The drama will have two seasons and is divided into eight episodes.

Harrison Ford describes the story as having a strong moral context, stating that “The Duttons live by a code of behavior that they impose on themselves and that requires complicated moral and ethical judgment. It’s not just physically tough. The challenges they face from modernity, challenges to their way of life, their freedom, and the opportunities they’ve enjoyed, are a big part of the story.”
